Schedule Gets Tougher for Greenwich
Entering this week, Greenwich (11-0) had not lost. The Cardinals outscored opponents by an astounding 112-23 margin before Monday’s game against Stamford and have jumped to No. 3 in the Register Top 10 poll.
Now it’s time to see if Greenwich is for real.
The Cardinals’ second-half schedule if filled with some of the FCIAC’s top teams, including Fairfield Ludlowe, Staples and St. Joseph.
So far, the Greenwich rotation has been close to unhittable. Versatile senior Yuta Okazaki (he has played seven positions during his high school career) is 3-0 with a 1.08 ERA.
At the plate, players like Joe Marianacci (.436) has come up with timely hits, and the Cardinals have shown they can pound the ball. Mike Dunster had eight RBIs in a 23-1 win over Fairfield Warde.
“A young outfield has been holding up,” Greenwich coach Mike Mora said. “The questions we’ve had seemed to be answered. We’re confident with the pitching we have. Our schedule is getting tougher, but we’re hungry.”Labels: baseball, Greenwich, Joe Marianacci, Yuta Okazaki
