Top ranked ND-West Haven falls to Law

Touch 'em All: Monday's baseball notebook

#ctbase – Down goes No. 1 and it’s hard to get a hit against Pomperaug. Touch ‘em all.
FIRST BASE
THE LAW ONE – Last season Law went 5-15. There were plenty of games where you could look at the scoreboard and say, “they could’ve won that.” Actually in games decided by five runs or less last season, Law was 1-5. However, yesterday Law picked up what could go down as the biggest upset victory of the season in a 1-0 11-inning Southern Connecticut Conference interdivision victory over top ranked Notre Dame-West Haven. Law has won three in a row heading into today’s game against rival Foran. Law’s (4-6) Matt Ferriaolo threw 10 scoreless innings for Law, Joe Bannon came on in the 11th and Connor Falaguerra’s sac fly in the 11th gave Law the 1-0 lead it would not relinquish. Second-year coach Greg Simler had this to say:
“The team has been building towards this kind of win. We knew we were playing better baseball over the last week or so and felt as though we were ready to take the next step. Our senior pitcher Matt Ferriaolo delivered a top notch pitching performance that I knew he had in him and led the way for us.”
SECOND BASE
NO-NO,NO-NO,NO-NO – Pomperaug doesn’t like giving up too many hits. Panthers’ pitcher David Cherry threw his second straight no-hitter in a SWC victory over New Fairfield 5-0. Cherry no-hit Immaculate in his last outing. The senior pitcher isn’t the only one on the team to twirl a no-no, Andrew Reel no-hit Weston last Friday in a 11-1 win. That’s three no-hitters, two in a row, in the last four games for the No. 10 team in the NHR Top-10.
THIRD BASE
3 IN A ROW – North Haven started out the season 0-3 after playing Xavier, Foran and No. 1 ND-West Haven. Since then North Haven has gone 5-1 and won three in a row. They took out Wilbur Cross 14-4 in a SCC Oronoque victory. Chris Lavorgna had a triple and scored a run. Ryan McLane got the win.
HOME
HEADED TO THE POSTSEASON – North Branford has been hot lately and it picked up win No. 8 on the season yesterday. North Branford qualifies for states and is now 8-1. Nick Perrelli got the win, he is 3-1. Perrelli pitched a complete game shutout in the 5-0 Shoreline Conference victory over East Hampton.
TODAY’S GAMES TO WATCH

Xavier at ND-West Haven, 3:45 p.m.: How will the Green Knights bounce back after yesterday’s marathon of a loss.
Pomperaug at Barlow, 4:15 p.m.: Anymore no-no’s left in the tank?
QUESTION OF THE DAY
With Notre Dame-West Haven falling, should the Green Knights keep the top spot? If not, who deserves to be No. 1?
