Wynne leads No. 9 Notre Dame-West Haven over No. 2 Shelton


 

Notre Dame-West Haven 3, Shelton 1 (Final): Brandon Wynne hit the go-ahead 2-run double and starting pitcher Greg Zullo pitched a complete game with six strikeouts as the Green Knights won their season-opener at Quigley Stadium in Wednesday.

Notre Dame-West Haven 3, Shelton 1 (Fifth inning): The Green Knights take their first lead of the game off a 2-run double from Brandon Wynne with two outs. 

Shelton 1, Notre Dame-West Haven 1 (Third inning):  Greg Zullo had an RBI single to right to score Wes Paulsen after Paulsen reached on an E6 to tie it up as we head to the top of the fourth.

Shelton 1, Notre Dame-West Haven (First inning): Tyler Tice had an infield single, stole second and scored on an E6 to put the Gaels up heading to the bottom of the first. Stay right here for up to the minute updates on Opening Day.

Branford starts anew with Ed Bethke at the Helm


Career 8, Platt Tech 0: Pitchers Eric Colon, Josh Colon, Will Jackson, Jose Negron and Melvin Santiago combined for a no-hitter, eight strikeouts and a walk to lead the Panthers to their non-league win in New Haven. Eric Colon went 3-for-3 with two RBIs and Justin Garcia had a three-run triple for the Panthers.

Fairfield Prep 4, Sheehan 1: Chris Sutay had two hits and two RBIs and Sean Blake had a triple, RBI and two runs scored to lead the Jesuits in their SCC interdivision win in Fairfield. Pitcher Zach Hart had five strikeouts and had a double and scored a run.

Haddam-Killingworth 7, Old Saybrook 0: Pitcher Jake Decarli struck out 15 and had two hits and three RBIs to lead the Cougars to their Shoreline conference win in Old Saybrook.

Law 2, East Haven 1: Kevin Johnson drove in a run on a sacrifice fly and Jake Rouse had an RBI single for the host Lawmen in this SCC interdivision win at Milford.
Derby 2, Seymour 0: Pitcher Sal Frosceno had 12 strikeouts and had two hits to lead the Red Raiders to their NVL win in Derby. Tyler Bottino drove in a run with a sacrifice fly and Tim Garrity’s fielders choice drove in another run for the Red Raiders.

Stratford 1, Trinity Catholic 0 (8): Joe DeFrancesco had two hits, including the game-winning walk-off RBI double, to lead the host Red Devils to this non-conference win.

Joe Marsan singled and scored the winning run for Stratford (1-0).

No. 7 Foran 11, Wilbur Cross 0: Anthony Alicki had 12 strikeouts and drove in five runs to lead the Lions to their SCC interdivision win in Milford.

Hand 10, North Haven 7: Ray Miklos had a three-run homer to lead the Tigers to their SCC interdivision win in Madison. Adam Nuzzo and James Powell each added a two-run homer for the Tigers. Nuzzon ended up going 4-for-4 with three RBIs. Mike Acampora had a three-run homer and Chandler Andrewson a two-run homer for the Indians.

No. 6 Xavier 10, Cheshire 6: Will Garrity had three hits, including a double, and four RBIs for the Falcons in this win at Cheshire.
Mike Purcell had two singles and a double for Xavier (1-0).

Hopkins 7, Brunswick 3: Paul Tuppper hit a two-run triple for the host Hilltoppers in this prep school win at New Haven.

Doug Schaffer had a run-scoring double for Hopkins (1-0).

West Haven 18, Lyman Hall 5: Winning pitcher Cameron Stone allowed four hits in six innings and helped his cause with three RBIs for the host Westies in this SCC interdivision win.

Gary Donovan and Mike Brand had three hits each for West Haven (1-0).

Justin Brown and Brett Bilodeau each had two hits and an RBI for the Trojans.

Guilford 8, Branford 7: Zach Battapaglia drove in the winning run in the bottom of the sixth inning to lift the host Indians to this SCC interdivision win.

Mike Afeltra had four hits and two RBIs and Ryan Fraiser drove in a run on a sacrifice fly for Guilford (1-0).
