Mathews is a lanky sophomore right-hander for Hopkins. He has windup, which is reminiscent of former major league pitcher Orlando “El Duque” Hernandez.

Mathews top performance of the season came earlier this month when he shut down rival Hamden Hall, pitching a complete-game two-hitter, striking out six and walking five in a 6-1 win.
