Snubbed

North Branford senior Sage Leonard came up with a triple to drive in the tying run and scored the go-ahead run to lead the Thunderbirds to a huge Class M first-round win over East Haven on Tuesday. He then helped North Branford coast into the quarterfinals with an 11-2 win over Granby Memorial.

Perhaps he’s playing with a bit of a chip on his shoulder, after being left off the All-Shoreline Conference team.

Biggest all-league snub? Without question. How was he left off the team?

Along with being a solid defensive catcher, Leonard hit .464 with 17 RBIs during the regular season.

He will play one year at Manchester Community College. But for now, he will continue to help lead the Thunderbirds in the state tournament and prove his critics wrong.

I have watched him play for a long time and see all their games. His act on the field is embarrassing and the coaches should of benched him a long time ago.
And for the family to reach out to the Register on the day the teal is to play in the quarter finals is an example of the class this kid has.
He is an absolute distraction in the dug out and he behaves like a 5 year old. The other coaches who vote for these awards see this and they speak about these things among themselves.
Sage is not deserving of any such honor to be picked among the best in their league.

Sage is a baby with a bad mouth. I cannot believe the amount of "F" bombs that go flying at the high school games, mainly towards his coaches. No wonder he wasn't picked!! He is, at BEST, a mediacore 2nd year catcher with, if you actually look at his skills, minimal talent. Grow up baby!!

Sage is a "want to be". Problem is he does not want to earn it.
He cannot catch a pop up foul.
He does not run out ground balls.
He does not cover first base when he is suppose to.
He cannot hit a curve ball.
He is disrespectful to his coaches, teammates and the town with the way he talks and acts as he represents the town.
There are 2 better younger catchers on the team willing to give 100% effort.
He even missed a game to go to another schools prom.
I heard his dad was contacting the Register and I guess this is it. I would be extremely embarrassed if my dad did this.
And all this is his behavior on the field. You don't even want to discuss what my teachers think of him

Unbelievable, previous bloggers should be ashamed of themselves
Talking about this kid like this! I coached this lid for 3 years in AAU ball
And this kid by far offensively & defensively is the best athlete on the North
Branford squad( no help from the coaching staff), BAR NONE!!

North Branford teams will never win a championship with all those tutti frutti boys they have in town. For those people who think a couple of "f" bombs at a boys high school sporting event is unusual or a major crime, better stay home ... Leave sports to the real men and sign your sissies up for ballet!

You all who are downing him on a WEB PAGE should be ashamed! If you think he is a baby look at your self ! I have known sage my whole life and he is the one person I trust with all my heart! And he is a straight shooter, just because he said the "F" word dosent make him a bad kid so why don't all of u grow up! And don't even drag his family down they are good people! Oh and I would LOVE to hear of another kid who never said the "f" word! I'm from east haven and I'm sure there are worse things going on then just swearing! So why don't y'all grow up! Thanks.

this town has alot of nerve talking about this kid...the parents of the kids on this team were all over the news a few months ago for starting a brawl at a football game swearing and fighting.....talk about no class!!!!!!!!!they should pay more attention to football players who were alowed to play after caught drinking!!!!! I was at a football game and the mouths of those kids were awful. This kid is a straight shooter who just needs to work on his communication skills,he is only 17 and has many years to perfect this!people in this town need to get a life, there is so much more going on here than a young teen swearing. His dad takes great care of this kid,i know this because i helped sage with his baseball for many years......comes from good stufff,no drama in this family......sounds like alot of jeolousy going on here......he seems to be intimdating people with his personality and above average looks...........17 RBIS BATTING AVERAGE 464 this kid really does not have to defend himself........AWWWWWWWWW he swears, seems like you all are babies in that town!!!!!good luck to sage ....

"raw talent that needs to be on a better team" According to CIAC NBHS is 3rd in the state for ERA, 9th for batting average, and was ranked 3rd for class M. How was this team team not good? As for Sage he is a solid defensive catcher who hits the ball well. He just lets his emotions get the best of him sometimes. Compared to what he used to be like he has improved a lot in that aspect.
For the people who said North Branford swore all the time, WAKE UP IDOITS!, almost every game i was at this year i had heard atleast one kid from both teams swear when they didn't get a hit or made an error. So to make it out like just North Branford is bad with swearing your insane.

I find this whole thing to be absolutely ridiculous. These are life lessons that all kids have to learn....life is not fair. Get over it and move on. Nothing positive will come from all of this, just a lot of bad feelings on the tail end of a decent season where all the kids got to be with their friends and enjoy their remaining days together as a team.

Sounds like a lot of pissed off east haven ballplayers talking trash, how unusual. I want sage to just understand that people will always try to bring you down when your playing at a high level. People need to realize that the way he's playing is like man amongst boys. just remember sage, if they're talking about you that just means your making a impact. just crush it in college.....cousin carmine

I had sage as a student and for the person who made it look like teachers would talk about him is way out of line.we are professionals who would never do that!!!!Sage has made a remarable change thyanks to his parents ,his mom is relentless with her boys......She also takes very good care of her kids.I wish sage the best in his future.

Sage is a typical kid...I actually think he is very shy and that is why he gives the appearance of being a "tough guy"...His Mom and Dad are very strict parents who know where their boys are every minute of the day...North Branford has a huge problem with its baseball program and it all starts with the coaching...Cmon, you have uncles and fathers coaching at the middle and high school level..The head coach favors the kids whos dads are part of his "good old boy" network...In the end true talent will prevail..Good luck Sage...

This kid was truly never recognized.Because of his attitude.looks like north branford coaches need to take some classes with dealing with many types of personality. There are many teens who act like this and I have been at games and sometimes saw other kids swear throw helmets and punch walls .I must admit I have not seen any of this behavior in the past two years from sage.I have seen him have some great interaction with all the umps in a very respectful way.I like the kid and really dont think the negative remarks are needed. And he has many friends in this town that love him.....He is known to tell it like it is....some of the adults in town should try it....GOOD LUCK SAGE
