Good Eye: Derby's little boss


 


Ed Groth had two hits and two RBIs for No. 10 Shelton, which beat top-ranked Xavier 6-3 in an Southern Connecticut Conference interdivision game at Middletown.

Justin Lynch added two hits and Ryan Testani won his second game for the Gaels (4-2). Matt Albanese had two hits for Xavier (6-1).

No. 3 Amity 8, Cheshire 3: Keith Klebert had two hits and two RBIs and Anthony Capozziello added three hits and an RBI in the Spartans’ SCC Housatonic Division win in Cheshire.

East Haven 3, Branford 1: Nick Lamberti had two hits and two RBIs for East Haven (2-5) in an SCC Oronoque Division home win. Branford fell to 2-4.
No. 6 Foran 5, Hand 0: Pitcher Anthony Alicki had eight strikeouts and allowed two hits to lead the Lions to their SCC Hammonasset win in Milford.

Chris Yee went 2-for-4 with an RBI and Casey McCone went 2-for-2 with two RBIs for the Lions (5-1).

Sheehan 4, Lyman Hall 1: Brandon Rentas allowed four hits and no earned runs for Sheehan in an SCC Housatonic Division home win.

Zach Hart’s single and Kevin Duffy’s double gave Sheehan (2-3, 2-0) the lead in the 3rd. For the Trojans (0-6, 0-2), Dan Russell took the loss striking out four.

Hamden 3, West Haven 2: Tyler Mitchell had a single and two RBIs for the host Green Dragons in this SCC Quinnipiac Division win.

Mat Moskal pitched a complete game and allowed just four hits to earn the win for Hamden (3-3, 1-1). Joe Sette had a two-run double for the Westies (3-4, 0-3).
